Saturday last was spent at the Bilsdale agricultural show, held in a farmer's field in the North York Moors national park, about 20 miles from where we live. It was a very blustery day but at least the rain held off. This was a small event in comparison to some of the better known shows but, in truth, all the more enjoyable for that.
There were prize winning sheep
and bulls,
classic vehicles,
agile dogs,
a familiar couple,
a brass band
and, of course, 99s.
We admired entries in the competition tent (photographs, Victoria sponges, handwriting, quilts, giant vegetables), bought a jar of chutney and won two prizes at the tombola stall. Then it was time for a picnic whilst watching the dog show and glimpsing the sheepdog trials in another field.
And all in such a wonderful setting.
