........ which made me smile last week.
- A delicious carrot and cardamom pâté filled crusty baguette enjoyed at a new to us deli cafe in nearby Saltburn
- Mothering Sunday flowers and a candle I want to eat with a spoon
- Overheard at the eye clinic whilst being tested for glaucoma.
Italian ophthalmologist: The results are borderline. So, no meat, no fish.
Female patient: Oh, that's OK, my diet is currently vegan anyway.
Italian ophthalmologist: No no no, it's a saying we have in Italy. Né carne né pesce. Neither this nor that. Inconclusive.
(The female patient may or may not have been yours truly. You decide.)
- A new friend. Dougie. Knitted from a kit found in Aldi. Some materials and the instructions for sewing him together were missing so he's less than perfect. He's a dog, though with the addition of a hat he'd be a dead ringer for Orinoco.
- A new book and a bag (the whole bag, I scoffed the lot) of liquorice
One thing that didn't make me smile was using the swanky new iron for the first time and not spotting the protective plastic cover on the soleplate.
Uh oh.
Might be a good idea to start wearing the swanky new specs.
